Want to help plant a church for $10 a month?

Imagine if you could help plant a church for only $10 a month. Well, you can – sort of. Let me explain.

I recently asked for partners to help with my church planting internship. My family and I are so grateful that God moved so many of you to come to our aid. We are now in Fall River, MA under the leadership of Redemption Fellowship.

The internship just started on June 1, 2014 and runs through May 31, 2015. Though we hope God extends our time beyond the first year. My focus during the year will be evangelism, open air preaching, teaching, discipleship, and more. While the internship is covering some of the expenses, my family and I need additional help.

Here is where the $10 comes in.

We are reaching out to you, dear brothers and sisters, to consider partnering with us again. For the next year, we are asking if you would please considering giving at least $9.99 a month to help support the church planting internship. Since there are only 7 months left you can give a one time donation of 70 bucks or you can choose to give 9.99 for the next 7 months. Or if you like any donation amount will help my family and I.

Please prayerfully consider if the Lord would have you partner with us monthly. We believe God has called us to this Kingdom work and would love for you to be part of it!

Your brother,

I just want to say thanks and God bless.
In other news I have recently accepted a church planting internship in Fall River, Massachusetts and will be moving up there shortly with my family. This is an answered prayer that has been on my heart for a while now. It also seems like the Lord is opening some doors for televison in the future and talks are going on now behind the scenes. Please keep all of this in prayer as I do not have all the answers and I want to honor the Lord in whatever I do or do not do. There are some other things in the works that I won’t speak on at this time but just know we are striving for excellence and look forward to continue serving all of you in the future with our gifts and talents.

What I’ve learned about Lecrae, Andy and others

For the last few years we’ve been seeing more of a public shift in methodology and target audience from Christians in the music arena, namely LeCrae. He has been the focus of controversy and has received positive and negative criticism from the masses. One of those negative critics has been myself. I disagree with some of the methods that LeCrae and others are using yet I am not here for that. Sorry to disappoint.
I’ve noticed to often that we as Christians can become so focused on our disagreements between brethren that we forget to encourage and love them. Regardless of what some may feel about LeCrae and company they are brothers in Christ, which means Christ died for their sins. They are his bride and Christ loves them which means we should love them as well.
Im encouraged, impressed and have learned much from the reach camp. First, they are members of a local body. LeCrae and Andy aren’t running around with no direction. They are accountable to elders and brothers whom they trust to keep them in line. Social media gives us a voice and at times the delusion that says brothers are personally accountable to us when they aren’t in our local body.
I am encouraged that even though they may reject the title Christian rapper or Gospel artist, they haven’t rejected being identified as Christians and members of Christ’s body. Their music is clearly from a Biblical worldview. The artists on reach records clearly speak on the Lord. Some projects are more explicit than others but it’s all christian content.
I’m impressed from a business standpoint. These men are professionals who take their craft seriously and are hard workers. They make excellent music to the glory of God. The production, engineering, lyrics and subject matter are all done with skill. As Christians we should all strive not just for great content but great artistry also. We shouldn’t be content to release something just because it’s about Jesus. Reach has sold tons of records and continues to break barriers with their movement. Whether people like it or not God has them in this spot and they aren’t going anywhere.
I am encouraged by their willingness to reach the lost. They’re in places where many of us can’t and meet people many of us won’t. They’re investing in people’s lives and I can’t knock them for this. We need Christians everywhere being a light where God has called them. Some may be in politics, film, music, the marketplace, schools and etc. What reach and others like them are doing is causing us to get out of our comfort zones. It’s easy to hide behind social media and judge the Grammy awards or the lives of sinners. It’s much harder to invest in their lives and actually love them and be a light to them.
I admire their zeal and commitment. These are brothers who love the Lord. They seem to have really thought out the decisions they are making and have given answers on how they feel they are able to do what they do. They constantly receive criticism for everything. Lecrae has tattoos, he has earrings, he was at mtv, Andy is on sway,Andy took a picture with 50 cent. Everyone has something to say on every move they make yet they continue to push forward and follow their convictions.
In conclusion,I’ve been tremendously blessed by Lecrae, Andy and others. I look forward to hearing kb`s 100 ep and Tedashii`s new album. I praise God for using these brothers and pray he continues to do so. I challenge those who constantly and publicly Criticize them with this question. What is more frequent in your life? Is it prayer for them or criticism? Have you wept for them in your concern? If you haven’t and aren’t genuinely praying then most likely you aren’t concerned for them. Let us encourage brothers like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Sho baraka and others who we don’t see eye to eye with on everything, and not criticize them on everything just because we can. Am I saying to never criticize? Certainly not but I am saying don’t let your criticism be an excuse to slander, gossip and treat Christ’s bride like a harlot because she is beautiful in his eyes. Lecrae is not the standard neither am I. Let us look to Christ and be obsessed with him. Grace and peace.

What can christians learn from openly gay Michael sam and Christian rapper Bizzle?

Recently Missouri Defensive Michael Sam has publicly come out before NFL draft day and pronounced he is gay and unapologetic. Sam was asked how was he going to handle the criticism and the negativity and he responded by saying he is who he is and people can say what they want. He is gay and proud. Last year Jason Collins was the first basketball player to officially announce he was gay. He received a call from president Obama about how courageous he is. The gay community has of course backed these two individuals and stand fully behind them. Its not that the gay movement is strong withing themselves rather there are many who aren’t gay who support them.

What does being gay have to do with the profession of sports? It has everything to do with it because even though its a job to many, people are realizing that our worldviews mean everything. Michael Sam wasn’t forced to admit being gay. Him coming out can possibly cause him to lose being drafted high in the NFL. His proclamation is that regardless of the consequences he wants the whole world to know gay is in and should be accepted as normal.
The homosexual community and its supporters seem to be taking every platform to push the gay agenda to the world. ESPN analyst Chris Broussard spoke out against homosexuality and what the Bible says about it on national TV and was heavily ridiculed and even called the donkey of the day by the breakfast club. He went on the breakfast club live and stood firm on his stance and the gospel, not wavering to the pressure of non believers. Even though his job is to cover sports, when it was time to speak out he spoke out and stood firm on the word of God. The gay community seems unashamed in pushing the sin of homosexuality so we as Christians should be even more unashamed of standing on Gods word and calling sin for what it is.
This brings me to my main point of why I felt led to write this blog. Christian rapper Bizzle released a response song to Macklemore’s same love track which is a song in support of same sex relationships. Bizzle responded by telling the homosexual community that comparing your sin to being African American is out of line. Because Bizzle has responded with truth from scripture many in the gay community have responded with slander, gossip and even death threats. Bizzle should rejoice in the fact that he is suffering for righteousness sake. Now many may question his motives or his wisdom in doing the song. Some may say just do music and may even suggest that he brought this on himself. I don’t know Bizzle nor do I claim to know his motives. All I know is what I see and I see a guy who reminds me of David before he slew Goliath. Who is this Philistine blaspheming our Lord? He has consistently opposed worldviews in music that contradict the bible.
In conclusion Bizzle and Chris Broussard are great examples of men standing for truth on the job. Bizzle is a rapper dealing with other rappers who contradict the word. What gay football player Michael Sam is doing is standing up for his worldview. We as Christians should stand up for ours even more because we have the only true worldview. My last thoughts are this. Where are the christian rappers with platforms that are standing with Bizzle? When Michael Sam and Jason Collins spoke out, celebrities on twitter, analysts and more publicly acknowledged their support. Let’s show our support for Bizzle, Chris Broussard and others who are less concerned with fame and more concerned about truth. Let us not be cowards and hide behind platforms or our jobs. Let us be men and women of God who are loving yet willing to defend and stand for truth. My name is Jovan Mackenzy I am a christian rapper and I stand with Bizzle and anyone else who stands on God’s word.

Holiness! Many people in America have their own definition of what this word means, but today I will speak to you on what holiness is and what holiness is not. Holiness is more than just being morally good it is the very essence of being set apart. Goodness is a part of that holiness. God is good but his goodness stems from his holiness. R.C Sproul’s definition of God’s holiness is being distinct, set apart and in a class of his own. The hebrew word for holiness is kodesh which is the state of being sacred or set apart or unique. There are many people in This country today who claim to be christians and followers of Christ but if you asked them what holiness is, not many of them would be able to give you a biblical answer. With that being said I would like to share with you what holiness is not.

Holiness is not simply the act of one doing good works. Many people across the world would look at devoted monks, catholics, muslims or even atheists who serve in the community as holy. Sinful men would like to think that holiness is something that they can earn or an attribute that is naturally inside of them. If you asked ten different men what holiness is you would more than likely get ten different answers. Men love to try to reason within themselves to define what this word means. They do good works to quiet their burning conscience that tells them their is nothing good in them. In colossians 2:18 Paul says “Let no man disqualify you, insisting on asceticism. This word asceticism is characterized by or suggests the practice of severe self discipline and abstaining from all forms of indulgence. These type of people believe that abstaining from certain foods or drinks or even cultural activities, makes them set apart or better than those who participate in these things. The Omish go without electricity believing that it gives them a connection with the world. The bible says do not be conformed to the world (romans 12:2) so they believe going without electricity helps them avoid temptations and the deterioration of family and fellowship. To obtain a life of holiness monks choose the path of separating themselves from society to devout themselves to God. They believe that by being celibate and living life in the simplest form and praying all day makes them holy and earns them eternal life. Many of them live in monasteries and some even wonder from place to place. Their vows forbid him of owning any personal property apart from a bowl, cup, two sets of clothes and medical aids. He can’t have any contact with or even think of being in the presence of a woman. They can not eat for pleasure, nor can they possess or touch money or seek personal relationships. Many americans who profess to be christians believe that if one goes to church, prays, reads their bible, pays tithes and tries really hard to live a good life that this makes that person holy. If they do these moral deeds they feel like they have become holy but the problem with that is sinful men do not get to define what holiness is.

There is only one being in the universe who has the right to declare what holiness truly is and that being is God almighty. In Exodus chapter 15 verse 11 it says, who is like thee among the gods, O LORD? Who is like thee, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders? 1 samuel 2:2 says There is no one holy like the Lord indeed there is no one besides thee, nor is there any rock like our God. There is not other attribute mentioned in the bible over three times repeatedly other than the attribute holy. In Isaiah 6:3 we see the seraphim crying out to one another that God is Holy, Holy, Holy. Seraphim are wonderful beings that are without sin and are in the very presence of God yet the bible states that they have wings that cover their face and their feet. This shows us how holy God truly is. The word holy means to be separate and comes from a greek word that means to cut or even separate. God is uniquely holy and has no rivals nor competition. God is so beyond and unlike man that me doing this paper doesn’t do him any justice. It’s like a blind man trying to describe the sun. He has no clue where to start. The only difference is that I have the word to give me an idea of how holy God truly is. God is so holy that scripture says he can not look upon wickedness. Hebrews 7:26 states that for it indeed was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Did you catch that? It says he is unstained separate from sinners. God is the complete opposite of mankind. Jesus being the Lamb of God was without spot or blemish. He pleased the Father every day of his life in word, deed, thought and action. There was never a day in his life where He sinned. Christ is so holy that if he came on the earth with his full glory man would disintegrate to nothing. When we study the holiness of God we come to find out that God is truly separate and that their is truly no one like him. The bible says be ye holy for I am holy and without holiness no man will see the Lord. Well how do we achieve this holiness? There is no one on the earth who in themselves are holy. Holiness comes from God not man. 1peter 2:9 says But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light. verse 10 states that Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people, Once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. The only way men can truly be holy is to receive holiness. They have to be granted this holiness from Christ himself. Christ is the only man who ever walked this earth who is Holy. Holiness isn’t just an attribute of God but it is something he shares with his people. He sets us apart by saving us and sanctifying us. This is all the work of God alone. God purges us and he cleanses us with his righteousness. This is why the gospel of Christ is so important. Man has a problem and his problem is that God is holy and he is not. Man is required to be holy but he doesn’t meet the requirements.. But Praise be to God who sent his son to live a perfect, holy and blameless life to die on a cross for those he has chosen. God’s holiness is best described and displayed publicly at the cross. Here we have the Son of God hanging on a tree and because of the sin of the elect God doesn’t spare of hold back his wrath but unleashes his holy fury and anger on Christ because of men’s transgressions. This shows us that no matter who you are you will be dealt with if you are not justified in the eyes of God. If He did not spare his only son, neither then will he spare those who reject such a great salvation. God didn’t just forgive us but he punished Christ in our place showing that His holiness truly is holiness.

In conclusion we see that holiness is not just a morality but it is an absolute perfection and separation from every and all things. It is being set apart and blameless and the only one who truly fits this definition is God himself. He displayed his ultimate holiness by not sparing his son Christ on the cross but making him drink the entire cup of wrath on behalf of sinners. Men can only be holy by trusting in the finished work of Christ and being regenerated and quickened by the Holy Spirit. This is not something man can do by himself. This is a work that only a Holy God can perform and we see this within our own lives as true believers in His Son Jesus. Let us continue to dwell on this attribute of God and grow in this knowledge for I believe that It  will take an eternity of eternities to understand half of what holiness truly means.

Do You Complain?

As christians today we go through many trials and face many hardships. Much of us are in financial debt or have a physical illness of some sort . Some may be facing evictions and others may have recently been fired from a job or even in the process of trying to find one. Many don’t even know how they are going to pay their rent at the end of the month. All of us have some sort of trial that we are going through and all of us to one degree or another struggle with sin.

What type of people should we be in these trials and hardships? The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Regardless of how hard life gets we are to give thanks in everything. This is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us.” Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Let us pause for a minute and ask ourselves, do we give God thanks in all circumstances? I am confident that our answers would all be no. It is hard to thank God when we are facing difficulties in this life. We are commanded to give thanks but often times we find ourselves grumbling and complaining.

During trials we often forget the God we serve and who he is and what he has already done. Christ has ransomed us with his own blood. In Romans chapter 4:7-8 The Apostle Paul quotes the psalmist David from psalm 32:1,2 when he says “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered, blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.” On the Cross Christ took on our sin by taking the punishment that we deserve which is the wrath of God. He has in doing so imputed his righteousness to us making us right with the Father. Paul wrote in his letters saying grace and peace to you from God the Father. Because of the propitiation of Christ we now have peace with God. How often do we meditate on this sobering truth? We were enemies with our creator and now he calls us his children. Its amazing how we can believe in the doctrines of grace and still have anxiety and worry and doubt God at times. This is because we are focused on ourselves and on temporary circumstances and not the eternal. Colossians 3:1-4 “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above,Where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above , not the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” We are not focused enough on the eternal. Christ will return one day to dwell with us for eternity. This is our hope that we eagerly await, knowing that our Lord Jesus will refurn for his bride.  Pure worship doesn’t come when we focus on ourselves but only when we are focused on the things of God. The Gospel of Jesus is not only what saves us its what sustains us. Everything is about Christ. This life is temporary and is fading away.

Our trials help to conform us into the image of Christ and they also expose that we are a weak and sinful people. Many of our trials show that we aren’t as trustworthy in Christ as we profess. May the Spirit of God cause us to examine our hearts and help us to trust God with our whole being. Its easy to point out adultery, malice, gossip, and lying, but how many times have we addressed the issue of grumbling and complaining. These too are sins and we are commanded to give thanks in all things. I myself am guilty of complaining just as the israelites did in the desert . I’ve seen God provide for me over and over again and still at times find myself doubting God or complaining when things don’t go my way. If we praised God as much as we complain and grumble then we would be a different type of people. May The Spirit of God continue to sanctify us and convict us of sin. I don’t want you to leave reading this blog having a pity party about how much you complain, but rather would have you leaving this blog worshipping the God who saved you from your sins. He is everything. Give him thanks for who he is and what he has done. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 Let us live with this verse in mind. Do we truly believe it? May the God of all grace keep you.
